"Taste of Henry Hits Record High"
Henry Daily Herald Published April 25, 2007 By Johnny Jackson

Organizers of the Sixth Annual Taste of Henry fundraiser say this year's event raised a record $30,000. This is more than twice the amount raised last year.
It was estimated that approximately 1,500 turned out to the event Friday evening in support of A Friend's House, Henry County's emergency shelter for abused and neglected children.
The amounts exceeded the expected 1,000 patrons and $20,000 in ticket sales, said Beau Kelley, chairman of Taste of Henry.
"To me, it was just really unbelievable," he said. "We didn't expect that many people to come out. But we hope this event will grow every year. We look forward to Taste of Henry 2008."
One hundred percent of the money raised will go to the children's shelter. The Seventh Annual Taste of Henry is scheduled for April 25, 2008.

"Taste of Henry to Benefit A Friend"

The organizers of the upcoming Taste Of Henry are relying on an old adage: The best way to a man’s heart is through his stomach. They’re betting the same applies for women, too.
The annual showboat for local restaurants will take over Avalon Park in McDonough and stuff local residents until they don’t know what’s what. Participating will include everyone from Chick-fil-A to Truman’s American Bistro - all out for the glory of winning the People’s Choice award or the Best Presentation award.
But local realtor Beau Kelley, the chair for this year’s Taste Of Henry, says that although great food will abound, all of the barbeque, seafood and other delicacies are actually a means to a very important end.
“Of course, the restaurants are the backbone of this event,” said Kelley. “ When you see a particular restaurant at Taste of Henry, you know that they genuinely care about the welfare of the disadvantaged children in Henry County. Because this is strictly a charity event, they don't make a single penny from it...they willingly donate their time, talent, and food out of the goodness of their hearts.”
What Kelley is referring to is the function Taste Of Henry will serve as a fundraiser for A Friend’s House. The organization is Henry County’s emergency shelter for children in crisis. One hundred percent of the proceeds from the tickets sales of this year’s Taste Of Henry will go to A Friend’s House to help in their “Step Up” capital campaign, in which the organization is currently involved.
Kelley is in the uncommon position of straddling the two organizations. He is not only chair for the Taste Of Henry organizing committee, he also serves on A Friend’s House board. This, says Kelley, is not an unusual position for him.
“I’ve volunteered at many different places over the years, and A Friend’s House is the best organization I’ve ever been involved with,” he said.
Currently the children’s shelter can offer care for up to 24 kids, twelve youngsters and twelve teenagers. Says Kelley, this week there are 23 kids there. Expansion is always on the organization’s mind, hence the Step Up campaign. “No amount is too small,” Kelley said. To help A Friend’s House continue to serve Henry County’s kids in need, you can attend Taste Of Henry, or you can donate directly by calling 678-432-1518. Of course, you can do both, too.
Taste of Henry will be held Friday, April 20 at the covered pavilion at Avalon Park in McDonough from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. Tickets are $20 for adults, $15 for seniors age 60 or older, and $5 for children ages 3 to 12. Children under 3 are free. For information on participating as a restaurant, visit their website at www.tasteofhenry.org.

The Henry County Board of Commissioners proclaimed April to be Child Abuse Prevention Month in Henry County and designated Friday, April 20, 2007 as A Friend’s House Day. The action came at the Board’s regular meeting on Tuesday.
The proclamation was given as a way to encourage citizens to come together and take action to help prevent child abuse and reach out to these children in our own community. It also highlighted the care provided by A Friend’s House, Henry County’s emergency shelter for abused, neglected and abandoned children, which houses hundreds of children each year.
As part of the presentation, the Board encouraged citizens to attend Taste of Henry, a special event for which all proceeds will benefit A Friend’s House. This fun family outing is an outstanding opportunity to taste all kinds of culinary creations from the areas best restaurants – all in one place. And patrons can feel good about all that indulgence because it will raise money for this very worthy cause.
Taste of Henry will take place on Friday, April 20, 2007 from 6 – 9 p.m. at Avalon Park located at 1045 Industrial Parkway in McDonough.
